Roof repair and roof leak repair in Basildon
Most roof repairs start with something small: a tile that has slipped in the wind, a ridge tile whose mortar has cracked, or a damp patch on a bedroom ceiling after heavy rain. Left alone, a small gap lets water reach the felt, the battens and the timbers, and the repair grows.
We find where the water is really getting in, which is not always where the stain shows, and put it right with tiles or slates to match the rest of the roof. We will also tell you if something you were worried about does not need doing.
Roof repairs we do
- Slipped, cracked and missing tiles replaced
- Broken slates replaced
- Ridge tiles re-bedded and repointed
- Valley repairs
- Roof leaks traced and fixed
- Moss removal and roof cleaning
Signs a roof needs looking at

Emergency roofer in Basildon
When a storm lifts tiles or rain starts coming through a ceiling, you need a roofer who answers the phone. Emergency roofing is part of what we do, for homes and businesses across Basildon and the surrounding area.
The first job is to stop the water getting in. If the weather is too bad for a full repair, the roof is made safe until it eases, then the proper repair follows with the right tiles, slates or flashing.
Emergencies we deal with
- Tiles and ridge tiles blown off in a storm
- Water coming through a ceiling
- Leaks around chimneys and flashing
- Flat roofs that have started leaking
- Guttering brought down by the weather
- The roof made safe, then repaired properly
While you wait

New roofs and roof replacement
When tiles are failing all over a roof, or the felt underneath has perished, a new roof is often better value than patching it again and again. Re-roofing also gives the chance to put right tired timbers, ventilation and the edges of the roof.
A roof replacement means stripping the old covering, checking and replacing any rotten joists or rafters, laying new breathable membrane and battens, and fixing new tiles or slates. The verges and ridge can be finished with a dry verge and ridge system, fixed mechanically rather than bedded in mortar, so there is no mortar to crack and wash out.
What a new roof involves
- Scaffolding put up first
- The old tiles or slates stripped
- Rotten joists and rafters replaced
- New breathable membrane and battens
- New tiles or slates
- Dry verge and dry ridge systems
Good to know before a re-roof

Flat roof repair and new flat roofs
Flat roofs have a hard time. Rain sits on them longer, the sun works on the covering, and a small split or a lifted edge can let water travel a long way before it shows indoors.
If a flat roof has failed in one place, it can often be repaired. Where the covering is failing all over, or the deck underneath has gone soft, the roof is stripped back and a new covering is laid: EPDM rubber, GRP fibreglass or felt, with the edges and upstands finished properly.
Flat roof work
- Splits, blisters and leaks repaired
- EPDM rubber roofing
- GRP fibreglass roofing
- Felt roofing
- Stone tar and chip coatings
- Lead roofs and lead work
Where you find flat roofs

Chimney repairs and lead work
Chimneys stand above everything else on the roof and take the worst of the weather. When the mortar joints wear, the crown at the top cracks or the bricks start to break up, water finds its way down inside, often showing as damp on a chimney breast.
Where a roof meets a chimney, a wall or a porch, the joint is sealed with lead. Lead that has split, lifted or come away is one of the most common causes of a leak, and it is usually a straightforward repair.
Chimney and lead work
- Chimney stacks repointed
- Chimneys rebuilt
- Chimney stacks lowered
- New chimney crowns and pots
- Lead flashings repaired and replaced
- Lead work on porches and bays
Signs of trouble

Guttering, fascias and soffits
Guttering is in the name. Gutters that leak at the joints, sag or overflow in heavy rain send water down the walls, where it causes damp, stains and damage to brickwork and woodwork.
The fascia boards along the eaves carry the gutters and the bottom row of tiles, and the soffits close the gap underneath. When old timber boards rot, we replace them with uPVC, which does not need painting. We also replace old wooden cladding with uPVC and fit composite cladding.
Guttering and roofline work
- New guttering and downpipes
- Leaking gutter joints repaired
- uPVC fascias
- uPVC soffits
- Wooden cladding replaced with uPVC
- Composite cladding
